Changing DNS on Windows PC
Step by step instructions on changing your DNS for a Windows PC.
In this FAQ we cover how to change your DNS on a windows PC.
In short. its like this:
- Open UP the network Adaptor
- Select TCP/IP properties
- Enter IP addresses in text boxes
- Save Settings
But its never that easy is it. A longer description:
Windows XP DNS Settings
- If you have the network Icon for you Internet Connection on you system tray (by clock) then right click on the icon (two computers with lights) and select status then click on the properties button.
- A window will pop up with the title "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties" double click "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" a window titled "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties" will show up/
- You will be given the option if not set allready, to check "Use the following DNS server addresses." Check that
- In the two boxes enter the IP addresses that were given to you, if you dont have them check DNSServerList.org for addresses.
- If you have only one or need just one and windows refused to let you enter duplicte IP addresses, you can enter 127.0.0.1 as the second IP address.
Windows Vista DNS Settings
- Click on the Start Butto "orb" and select Control Panel
- Click on view network status and tasks
- Click on View Status
- Select the Properties Button
- If you are asked for permission cick Contine
- Click the Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) then click on the Properties Button
- Click on Button for "Use the following DNS Server Addresses.
- Enter the DNS IP addresses in the boxes
- Click OK, Close, Close, Close
